The Arts and Crafts Movement in Cumbria

William Morris, Edward Burne-Jones, Charles Voysey, M H Baillie Scott - all these people and more worked in Cumbria and left a legacy of work which continues to influence and inspire.

Visit churches and houses to see examples of their work and hear how they in turn were inspired by Lake District resident, John Ruskin.

There is a north and a south version of this tour.  The northern tour centres around Carlisle and the area around Hadrian's Wall.  We will visit Naworth Castle, home to George Howard, 9th Earl of Carlisle and patron of the arts in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.  We will also see the magnificent east window which he commissioned at Brampton church and various other wonderful locations.

In the south we are based in the Windermere area and visit a selection of houses, churches and museums.  The exact itinerary depends on what is available at the time of booking.
