A Wordsworth Trail

William Wordsworth - Poet Laureate and native of Cumbria.  Explore the landscape that inspired him and find out more about the man and his work

There are various options for this tour:  with four of the Wordsworth homes open to the public and a museum dedicated to his life and works, there is no shortage of attractions to help bring this enigmatic poet to life.  I would recommend a short guided walk around Grasmere, the village considered to be his spiritual home and where the poet and his family are buried.  There are options for short countryside walks to soak up the atmosohere - William wrote most of his poetry whilst out walking and we can listen to some of it in the landscape.  This also gives fantastic opportunities to take photographs.  Three of the homes are in the Grasmere/Rydal area whilst his childhood home is in the very attractive town of Cockermouth in the northern Lakes area of Cumbria.  The drive between them is absolutely stunning and will give your guests a fantastic view of lakes and mountains.  They will experience the contrast between a quaint village and an elegant Georgian town.

If your guests enjoy walking there are superb half-day walking options - not difficult or long but rough underfoot.  A stunning area for photography.
